How to use Tretinoin cream

Gently wash the area to treat and completely dry it. Using tretinoin on wet skin can irritate your skin more than usual. With clean hands, apply a small amount of cream (the size of a pea for your entire face), rubbing it gently. It’s best to use tretinoin at night because it is light sensitive and won’t work as well if you use it in the AM.

Do NOT use tretinoin and Benzoyl Peroxide or salicylic acid or other acid at the EXACT same time because the acid/peroxide kills the action of the tretinoin.

Tretinoin cream side effects

The risks are very low, but some women have experienced unwanted side effects when using Tretinoin cream. Minor ones include e skin dryness, itching, redness, mild burning, or worsening of acne. Those effects will decrease with continued use of the medication.
If you experience eye redness and watering (conjunctivitis) or skin discoloration, STOP the medication and tell your doctor.

The chances of serious side effects are extremely unlikely, but STOP the medication and seek immediate medical attention (call 911 or go to the ER) if you experience any of the following symptoms: blistering, severe burning/swelling of the skin, itching/swelling, eyelid swelling (though you should NOT be using this medication on your eyelid or around your eyes).

What Is Tretinoin Cream?

Tretinoin is a topical cream used to treat acne. It decreases the severity and number of acne lesions and speeds up the time to heal pimples. It works by making skin less oily, making the pores smaller, and making the cells less sticky, and thus less likely to block the pore.

Tretinoin cream is only available by prescription. Pandia Health’s doctors are happy to help you get the right skin treatment for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tretinoin cream is used to treat acne and prevent new lesions. It is also used to treat dark spots, rough skin, and fine wrinkles.

Tretinoin works by making skin less oily, making the pores smaller, and making the cells less sticky, and thus less likely to block the pore. It also speeds up the time for the acne/zit to heal.

Both are good options for acne treatment. It just depends on your skin type. Tretinoin gel contains more alcohol than Tretinoin cream does. The gel can have a drying effect on your skin if you have sensitive or dry skin, thus the cream is better for people with dry skin. The tretinoin gel is stronger, so if you have more severe acne, your doctor may prescribe that if you fail the cream or if you need extra strong treatment. Pandia Health’s expert Doctors are happy to evaluate your skin and prescribe the best acne treatment for you from the convenience and comfort of wherever you have internet.

Gently wash the area you’re going to treat and completely dry it. Using tretinoin on wet skin can irritate your skin more than usual. Do NOT use tretinoin and Benzoyl Peroxide or salicylic acid or other acid at the EXACT same time of day because the acid/peroxide kills the action of the tretinoin.

If you stop using tretinoin, you will stop enjoying the benefits of the treatment for your skin but nothing more severe than that.

To see all the benefits of Tretinoin, our doctors recommend allowing approximately 3 months (about 12 weeks). This does not mean you will not see any changes before 12 weeks, but it is best to wait 12 weeks to see all the benefits of the treatment.

Tretinoin is only available by prescription in the USA. Talk to your doctor if you want to start acne treatment or sign up with Pandia Health to get the right treatment for your skin with one of our expert doctors.
